the Concept of Solar Powered Cell Phone Charging Stations

ePower is developing solar powered charging stations that can help rural communities in the developing world gain access to electricity and lead the transition to renewable energy. In today’s world of mobile technology and rechargeable batteries people don’t necessarily need electricity delivered to their home – they need a battery charged. By providing a solar hub where members of the community can drop off their uncharged batteries and get a replacement battery, the need to extend power and place some communities into the grid may not be a requirement.

These solar powered charging stations will come in the form of a 40 foot container line like the one shown here, in addition to the basic functions by integrating intelligent software into the solar hub, advanced services can be provided at a limited or no cost.

these services can increase potential revenue, but more so, empower the surrounding communities with internet access allowing for research and learning opportunities.

About The Stations Design

The stations are designed to be inexpensive, rugged, and easy to service and transport. By demonstrating a sustainable revenue stream we hope to build a network of dealers/owners. The stations will create jobs and economic stimulus and we believe that the model of a small modular centralized charging station will prove to be a better solutions for many situations than the alternative methods currently being used for delivering renewable energy.

The customer have to own a phone and have access to charging vouchers distributed by the municipality which are handed over at the charging station in exchange for a fully charged battery. This means that the customer does not have to wait at the charging station for their battery to be charged. All they have to do is exchange their flat battery for a charged battery.

Our main target market will be communities that are located in remote areas that power may never be extended there. We will be targeting the low income family that earns about R9100 to R19500 per year.
